Sarah A. Paxson, Psy.D.
Registered Psychological Assistant (PSB34050)

Meet our StaffDr. Paxson has worked extensively with young children, adolescents and adults suffering from severe anxiety disorders. She earned her doctorate from The Institute of Graduate Clinical Psychology at Widener University. She primarily employs cognitive-behavioral techniques integrated with mindfulness to aid her patients in their recovery. Dr. Paxson was trained in biofeedback by Dr. Celeste DeBease, the former chair of BCIA; this practice helps patients understand their mind-body connection to anxiety.

Dr. Paxson’s background in school psychology gives her a unique perspective in working with patients. She utilizes behavioral techniques to decrease ritualistic behaviors with children suffering from social and other anxiety disorders. In addition to therapy, Dr. Paxson regularly conducts highly individualized, comprehensive assessment batteries, and helping patients and their families understand the testing results. Based on her experience as an academic coach, college professor and family therapist, Dr. Paxson is skilled at helping parents and school staff understand the impact OCD and other anxiety disorders have on academic functioning. She has presented at conferences and authored papers on how to best help children with anxiety.

Philip Pierce, D.D.S., Ph.D.
Licensed Psychologist (PSY23470)

Meet our StaffDr. Philip Pierce is a postdoctoral fellow at the renowned Wright Institute in Los Angeles, where he also completed his internship. A graduate of N.Y.U. Dental School, he created a multi-disciplinary group practice in Manhattan and co-founded the not-for-profit Performing Arts Center for Health. He completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute and is a lecturer at U.C.L.A. Dental School in the Behavioral Sciences.

Dr. Pierce combines his medical experience and psychodynamic training with cognitive behavioral techniques. He specializes in treating panic attacks, phobias (medical, dental, social, etc.), other anxiety disorders and depression. He has extensive clinical experience working with the LGBT community, the entertainment industry and medical professionals. He tailors individual treatments to help patients overcome negative thinking, self-sabotaging behaviors and relationship blocks.

Courtney Kligman, B.A.
Clinical Outreach Coordinator

Meet our StaffCourtney graduated with Honors from Tulane University in New Orleans. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Political Science emphasizing Latin American Studies, and a minor in History.

Courtney worked extensively with community service organizations both locally and internationally in New Orleans. Her participation with the Flying Doctors of America fostered relationships with foreign governments to provide healthcare for those who lacked access. Due to her exposure to the world’s inadequate healthcare services, Courtney is dedicated to advocating for patient services, and helping them gain freedom from mental and healthcare conditions.

Currently, Courtney is working towards obtaining her Masters in Business Administration.
